Penny's
Hill
Penny's
Hill is a relatively new McLaren Vale
brand, its first wines being produced from
the 1995 vintage. Recognised by its
distinctive 'red dot' packaging, the
Penny's Hill range is made by winemaker
Ben Riggs, who uses only estate-grown
fruit from the company's McLaren Vale
vineyards (Penny's Hill, Goss Corner and
Malpas Road) which are managed by local
viticulturist, David Paxton
Peter
Lehmann Wines
Peter
Lehmann Wines is one of Australia's most
respected and innovative winemakers,
creating wines that delight wine lovers
around the globe. Winemaking operations
are carried out at a single site located
near Tanunda, in the heart of the
internationally famous Barossa Valley,
South Australia.
Pikes
Wines
Englishman
Henry Pike immigrated to South Australia
in 1878 aboard the HMS Oakland. He settled
in the small town of Oakbank in the
Adelaide Hills and in 1886 established the
family brewing business called H. Pike
& Co. This name became well known
throughout South Australia for its quality
beer, soft drink and tonic ale, and the
company used the English Pike fish on the
label, which remains to this day - a
symbol of Pikes' long heritage.
Pirramimma
Pirramimma
was founded by Alexander Campbell Johnston
in 1892 and has been owned and operated by
the Johnston family ever since. The
Johnston family arrived in South Australia
in 1839 and in 1892 Alexander, the tenth
of thirteen children, purchased 97
hectares of rich farmland southeast of the
then fledgling village of McLaren Vale. He
named his land Pirramimma, an Aboriginal
phrase meaning "the moon and the
stars".
Primo
Estate
From our
very first vintage in 1979, our aim has
been to create and evolve our own styles
of wine. We have explored new ideas and
been inspired by some very old traditions
along the way. It all started with a young
Italian immigrant who came to Australia in
1953 with a dream to plant a
vineyard.
Punters
Corner
Centrally
located in Australia's premium wine
district of Coonawarra, Punters Corner is
a boutique winery and home of the 2000
Jimmy Watson Trophy. This website will
give you an insight into our special
corner of the world, while also giving
plenty of information regarding the
special qualities of the terra rossa
vineyard soil and the people behind the
wine.
Ralph
Fowler Wines
Ralph
Fowler Wines is committed to producing
limited quantities of hand crafted premium
quality wines. A true family company
Ralph, his wife Deborah, daughter Sarah
and son James are all involved in the
100-acre property at Mount Benson. Ralph
and Deborah have been in the Australian
Wine Industry for more than 30
vintages.
Rymill
The
working winery adjoins the cellar door,
separated only by extensive glass windows.
Elevated internal observation balconies
also provide visitors with the opportunity
to view the winemaking process, where
modern stainless steel fermenters contrast
with traditional oak barrels. As a bonus,
the cellar crew can usually be seen and
heard at work!
Saltram
Wines
In 1844, a
recently arrived immigrant from England
named William Salter was one of the first
people to purchase land in the newly
opened land survey known as the Barossa
Valley. He built a stone house for his
family naming it 'Mamre Brook' after
Abraham's spiritual home in the book of
Genesis.
Sarpantoni
Wines
The
Scarpantoni family originates from the
Abruzzi region of central Italy on the
Adriatic coast. Domenico Scarpantoni
immigrated to Australia in 1952,
travelling and working around the country
before deciding to settle in the McLaren
Vale region. Upon arriving in McLaren Vale
he commenced work for Thomas Hardy and
Sons at Tintara Winery.
Shaw
And Smith
Shaw +
Smith began over a long lunch in 1989 when
cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith
decided to realize a long held dream to
make wine together. They specialise in
Sauvignon Blanc, a single vineyard
Chardonnay, cool climate Shiraz and more
recently small batches of Riesling and
Pinot Noir.
Shottesbrook
Shottesbrooke
winery is named after the Shottesbrooke
church in Berkshire, England. The church
was built in 1337 as part of a monastic
complex and Nick Holmes' grandfather,
Richard Holmes, was the rector from 1905
to 1926. The design on the Shottesbrooke
label is adapted from the wonderful
stained glass window in the transept of
the church.
Skillogalee
Skillogalee
was established in 1970 with the first
wines released in 1976. The 1978 dry
riesling won major trophies at the
Adelaide Wine Show and the National Wine
Show, putting Skillogalee firmly on the
Australian winemaking map! The wines are
produced exclusively from grapes grown on
our own vineyards and styles include crisp
dry whites (riesling, gewürztraminer
and chardonnay), a full flavoured
rosé, rich, full-bodied reds
(shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and blends)
and some luscious fortified
wines.
St
Mary's Wines
Winery
Location - St Mary's winery is situated on
a strip of terra rossa soil 16 kilometres
west of the township of Penola in
the'Penola' wine Region which is a part of
the Limestone Coast zone in the South East
of South Australia. The Vineyard - St
Mary's Vineyard is established on part of
a grazing property that was purchased by
the Mulligan family in 1937.
Talunga
Wines
Moving
upwards from the Adelaide Plains on
winding hills roads, you enter the
Adelaide Hills Wine Region which is home
to many internationally acclaimed
vineyards, that produce an incredible
range of red, white and other specialty
wines.
Taylors
Wines
The Taylor
family were wine merchants in Sydney
before establishing the now-famous winery
in the Clare Valley, South Australia. In
1969, Bill Taylor Snr., along with his
sons John and Bill, purchased a holding of
178 hectares by the Wakefield River in
Auburn and planted Cabernet Sauvignon. The
excellent Bordeaux wines such as
Mouton-Rothschild had long held a
fascination for the Taylor brothers and
producing wines of comparable quality in
Australia prompted the family's foray into
the winemaking industry.
Tim
Gramp
Nestled in
the hamlet of Leasingham (2 kilometres
south of Watervale), the Tim Gramp winery
has served as a production and cellar door
sales base since its purchase in 1996. The
four acre Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard,
winery complex and old stone cottage
provided the perfect opportunity for Tim
Gramp to pursue his winemaking direction
and philosophy.
Torbreck
Low
yielding, old and dry grown Barossa Valley
vineyards are the cornerstone of Torbreck
Vintners where traditional, manual
winemaking methods and minimal
intervention are combined to produce a
variety of wines each year. The growers
we work with have been selected for their
unique vineyard sites and spartan approach
to viticulture - Torbreck wines are
concentrated in the vineyards, not in the
winery.
Turkey
Flat
Turkey
Flat is more than just a vineyard and home
of the best Barossa wines, it is a family
business that forms a vital part of the
region's rich cultural history and
heritage. It was here, on the banks of
Tanunda Creek where bush turkeys once
roamed, that pioneer Salesian settler
Johann Friedrich August Fiedler planted
the first Shiraz vines in 1843.
Two
Hands
The 'two
hands' are Michael Twelftree and Richard
Mintz who formed the company in 1999 with
the clear objective of making the best
possible Shiraz based wines from prized
Shiraz producing regions within Australia.
The
Willows Vineyard
THE
WILLOWS VINEYARD, situated at LIGHT PASS
in the BAROSSA VALLEY, has roots that go
back to the beginning of this historic
grape growing region. JOHANN GOTTFRIED
SCHOLZ (one of the early Silesian
colonists) settled this property in 1845.
Wirra
Wirra Cellars
The Wirra
Wirra Cellars were built by Robert
Strangways Wigley. One of McLaren Vale's
all time characters, he began building at
the turn of the century using the Dr. A.C.
Kelly plans of a split-level design that
his friend Alec Johnston has used to build
his Pirramimma winery. "Wirra Wirra" is an
aboriginal name meaning "amongst the
gums".
Woodstock
wines
Woodstock's
founder, Doug Collett A.M. discovered a
taste for wine whilst serving as a pilot
for the Royal Australian Air Force, and
the Royal Air Force in North Africa,
Syria, Palestine and Italy. As a
reconnaissance and fighter pilot in
Spitfires, Hurricanes and lighter
aircraft, Doug observed the vast vineyards
of Europe and developed an interest in
wine.
Wynns
Coonawarra Estate
What is
now Wynns Coonawarra Estate was founded by
Scottish pioneer, John Riddoch. He
recognised the potential of a small strip
of fertile red soil, the terra rossa, in
the far south east of South Australia,
which is now some of the most expensive
viticultural land in Australia. He planted
vineyards in 1891, and completed the
estate's famous three-gable winery in
1896.
Yalumba
Yalumba
was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith,
British migrant and English brewer, who
had brought his family to Angaston seeking
a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre
parcel of land just beyond the
southern-eastern boundary of Angaston,
Smith and his son began planting the first
vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch
"Yalumba" - aboriginal for "all the land
around".
Zema
Estate
Grape
growing and winemaking has been a large
part of the Zema Family history and
heritage dating back to the 1800's. It was
at this time that the Zema family first
became involved with vineyards and
winemaking not only for personal
consumption but also on a commercial
basis.
