Moving
upwards from the Adelaide Plains on
winding hills roads, you enter the
Adelaide Hills Wine Region which is home
to many internationally acclaimed
vineyards, that produce an incredible
range of red, white and other specialty
wines.
Here at
Gumeracha, 425 metres above sea level and
30 kilometres from the city of Adelaide,
lies the Talunga Winery and
Restaurant. Vince and Tina Scaffidi
established their vineyard at Gumeracha in
the picturesque Adelaide Hills area in
1987. The vineyard is in a cool climate
setting, giving a slow ripening period,
which allows the natural fruity character
of the grapes to be retained in the
juice.
Talunga
Wines combine the flavours and
characteristics that are distinctive to
the Adelaide Hills to create outstanding
quality, award winning wines.
In 1996
Vince & Tina Scaffidi launched their
Talunga wine label from grapes
grown in their Adelaide Hills Vineyard
established in 1987 by Vigneron &
Winemaker Vince Scaffidi.
Vince
follows a centuries' old tradition of
grape growing and wine making. All grapes
are handpicked at optimum maturity,
resulting in great wines, which are
acclaimed throughout Australia for their
consistently wonderful aromas and
flavours.
The
Talunga vineyard is situated at
Gumeracha, in the Adelaide
Hills.
The
Scaffidi label sources its grapes from the
One Tree Hill Vineyard, which is in the
north east of Adelaide. This is an area
which forms part of a new and exciting
wine growing district, at the foot of the
Adelaide hills.
Somewhere
in between managing a 160-acre vineyard in
Gumeracha, and another 200-acre vineyard
in One Tree Hill, Vince Scaffidi finds the
time to produce the award winning
varietals and blends under the Talunga and
Scaffidi labels.
Vince has
been making wine for around 30 years,
winning a number of medals in amateur
shows before making a more "serious" go of
it, initially with the Talunga label, and
now the new Scaffidi label, using grapes
from their One Tree Hill
property.

Door Manager says, "Vince's passion has
always been wine. He is a true Vigneron,
he grows the grapes and then turns them
into wine. As he grew older he went back
to his roots [Vince was born in
Sicily, Italy]. He purchased this plot
in the Adelaide Hills and recreated his
little Sicily."
By hand
picking the grapes at optimum maturity,
and following a centuries' old family
tradition of wine making, Vince creates
outstanding quality wines with the
flavours and characteristics of the
Adelaide Hills and the exciting new
development at One Tree Hill
